SmackDown 2013 SmackDown in ITEC 2013 Smackdown Demonstrations were presented to ITEC in May 22 and 23 providing a presentation of the Initiative, distributed real time simulation and an interactive Virtual World , based on Unity and developed in Kennedy Space Center, proposing the Telemetry of previous simulation runs carried out in Spingsim San Diego and other tests. As anticipated, the demonstration included live real-time simulation distributed among different sites including NASA Johnshon Space Center in Houston, Genoa Labs and MIT in Boston with several federates dynamically interacting in the Moon Base simulation. Luciano Dato, Genoa University in Internship on NATO STO CMRE and Margherita Dallorto, Genoa University in Internship in MAST, carried out the presentations; indeed they are two young engineers part of the development team for the Space Interceptor (Iphitos Spaceguard) devoted to protect the Moon Base as SpaceGuard System against Asteroids and Debris; they served as speakers and operators of the Smackdown Simulation. During the demonstration representatives of the Smackdown Technical and Executive Committee coming from Academia (i.e. Agostino Bruzzone, President of Simulation Team) and Sponsor Industries (i.e.Bjorn Moller, Vice President of Pitch Technologies) provided an overview of the benefits of this initiatives; the Smackdown at ITEC2013 involved also speeches from Simulation Societies such as Paolo Proietti, Vice President of MIMOS). The event was organized with the support of MIMOS (Boot, Demonstration Space and Promotion), Simulation Team Genoa University (Equipment & Computers and Travel Expenses) and NATO STO CMRE (Beam Projector and Network).

Smackdown Initiative is lead by NASA in cooperation with Scientific Organizations and Societies such as SISO, SCS, Liophant, Simulation Team with support of many organizations. The Sponsors involve leading companies in Interoperable Simulation such as Aegis Technologies, Pitch, VT Mak and Forwardsim. The teams composed by students in Universities and in Internship in Companies and Institutions develop the different simulators to be integrated in the Smackdown Federation based on HLA Evolved. During Smackdown 2013, best projects from Academia are awarded by the Scientific Committee of Smackdown.
